Ms. Caribfest 2014
A packed Akin auditorium was truly thrown back in time at the Roaring 20’s 2014 Ms. Caribfest Pageant on Wednesday night. It was a night of glitz, glamor, beauty, talent and creativity. The 20’s theme was depicted everywhere from the décor to the jazzy tunes played by the CSO Band. Even our hosts, Donna-Lisa Nelson and Ryian Williams, dressed to suit the theme, and they kept us engaged throughout the evening, particularly with the giveaways and mini challenges.Tara-Misha Dick opened the evening with a rendition in song. After a short break, Fatisha, Ashaunta, Jennell and Nailah escorted the five contestants in dance on stage to do an opening number.
The contestants then introduced themselves, discussed their platform and the reason they entered the pageant in the Introductory segment. Next was the Talent segment. Debosshe Christian shocked the audience as she displayed her flexibility in a dance that defied her body proportions. Chanice La Touche danced gracefully and D’Elle George mimed in keeping with her platform of education. Indira Placide hooked the audience in a dramatic presentation which incorporated song and the violin. Her excellent performance secured her the top spot in this segment. Finally, Valencia Morris also danced which had her supporters loudly cheering her on.The Swimwear segment was a hot one with each contestant strutting her stuff in exquisitely designed pieces. Ms. La Touche, in particular, received loud applause from the audience and captured this segment as she modelled her petite figure in a snugly fitted swim suit.
The Personality segment was up next, and for this segment, the ladies had to display their personality while dressed in costumes. Although Chanice had the prettiest costume, Indira showcased her personality best as she danced, jumped, waved, whined and trembled to the delight of the unsuspecting audience.
There was no questioning who won the Evening wear segment. When D’Elle stepped out on stage, the entire auditorium exploded in shouts and cheers. The gems that adorned the gown made her look gorgeous.
The final segment was the Interview. All the ladies did a commendable job of answering the questions posed to them, and Chanice was named winner of this segment. Overall, there was no doubt that Debosshe exhibited the most confidence on stage, while Valencia had the most committed fanfare. Tarina Simon then sang as Ryian serenaded the ladies who anxiously awaited the judges’ decision. The results were: 2nd runner up, D’Elle George; 1st runner up, Chanice La Touche, and Ms. Caribfest Queen Indira Placide. All the ladies did an exceptional job and the show they put on gave us our money’s worth. Congratulations to all of the winners, especially to our new reigning Ms. Caribfest!
